  • A pioneer in building automation and energy management

We first introduced xComfort in 2003 as a wireless home automation system, designed to make controlling household devices more convenient and energy-efficient. Over the past 20 years, xComfort has evolved, and we have expanded our range of associated products and services, becoming a highly respected provider of professional smart home automation solutions.

A profitable and safe investment

The xComfort wireless smart home system reduces power consumption, provides enhanced comfort and increases the value of your home.
Guenter Idinger

"More than 20 years ago, we decided to break new ground in the field of building automation by developing a wireless solution for controlling lights and blinds in residential building. Instead of a wired solution as before, the idea was ultimately to simplify renovations and increase user comfort. At that time, we were already thinking not only about electricity but also about energy as a whole, since heating control was also included. Twenty years later, this groundbreaking innovation now represents the state of the art in building automation, and Eaton can proudly claim to be the pioneer of this technology."

Guenter Idinger, former chief technology officer and currently vice president, Standards and Alliances

"The last 20 years have been an exciting, varied journey, during which we have realized many amazing projects, together with our installation partners in over 22 countries, from Scandinavia to the Middle East. As head of product management, I have been involved in the conception, realization, sales and support activities for four product generations of xComfort. Now, on its 20th anniversary, we have reached a point where we have to reinvent xComfort in order to defend our place in a networked world dominated by IT and software companies."

xComfort – a light switch without cabling – would it work?

"At the beginning, people laughed at our idea – but we convinced our management, and in 2000, we started to develop the xComfort wireless system, which took about two years. At that time, we already knew that besides lighting and shading, heating control and energy management, in particular, would be the key to success. And all this using products that communicate with each other via RF without any wiring – contrary to the opinion that 'a cable is a cable.' The system we created was easy for our electricians to install, particularly in the case of renovations and extensions, but also in new buildings. This was followed by a successful market launch in Europe and beyond. Twenty years later, countless xComfort systems have been installed, to the point that they are now prevalent in all areas of life and are here to stay."

Martin Zoechling, former product manager, now head of the Residential Pull Team, Austria

"It is gratifying to know that xComfort was launched already 20 years ago, and that we are still constantly developing new solutions for the system. We were pioneers in the field of complete solutions, from energy management to enhanced comfort functions for single-family homes. The wireless communication and configuration was especially innovative and advanced."

"We are working to transform and enhance xComfort, expanding its support to 3rd party components and, more importantly, putting a much stronger emphasis on its energy management capabilities. xComfort will be a core element of the future Eaton Home Energy Management System, providing granular metering, monitoring, and power control in a unified Eaton UX/UI."
