EV battery vent valves

A battery pack thermal runaway situation can occur when individual cells inside the unit fail through physical impact or short circuit. Eaton Battery Vent Valves are designed to enable rapid overpressure release in an electric vehicle battery pack. Battery packs are becoming progressively more powerful and create more heat with stricter ingress protection to increase battery life.

OEMs are designing in new safety systems to ease the impact of thermal events and protect their battery systems from external impacts.

3-in-1 Battery Vent Valve

The Eaton 3-in-1 Battery Vent Valve is the first valve on the market that is capable of three unique functions, including a battery case leak-check mechanism and passive and active venting to provide overpressure relief for a vehicle’s battery pack.

Eaton also developed the tool to actuate the leak check mechanism at customer assembly lines, allowing for testing through pressurization or a vacuum.

Its spring-based actuation technology allows us to accommodate flexibility to different opening pressure requirements while keeping the same valve design to drive economies of scale.
