Eaton is the leading global supplier of engine valves, supplying nearly all vehicle and engine manufacturers worldwide.
Solutions such as hollow valve manufacturing, seat welding, salt bath nitriding, and continuous materials and coatings development overcome the issues of increased temperatures, combustion pressures, corrosion and seat wear.
For more than 95 years, Eaton has been designing and developing engine valve technologies for manufacturers that require high quality valves for gasoline, diesel and alternative fuel engines.
Eaton differentiates itself by using innovative technology to produce engine valves.
Engine downsizing coupled with increased power density requires valves with higher strength and temperature resistance. This challenge can be addressed with high performance materials, special seat and stem coatings, lightweight and hollow valves, which enable internal cooling.
Eaton hollow valves ensure engine knocking reduction enabling fuel economy, catalitic converter efficiency and specific power increase
Improved wear resistance
Proven reliability for increased power
Crutonite (EMS 200) is Eaton's Automotive News PACE Award-winning, proprietary high-temperature exhaust valve alloy with reduced nickel content. It can be used on intake or exhaust valves.
Key features and benefits:
Hydrogen internal combustion engines (H2 ICE) face several challenges compared to diesel engines. These include higher combustion chamber temperatures, which make them susceptible to surface auto-ignition or knocking. Additionally, material embrittlement and wear occur due to the high-pressure and high-temperature environment of hydrogen combustion.
To address these challenges, Eaton has developed proprietary material and innovative designs:
Crutonite: Eaton's proprietary material, Crutonite, offers a potential solution to the issues faced by H2 ICE engines. This material is designed to withstand the harsh conditions of hydrogen combustion, reducing the risk of material embrittlement and wear.
Next Generation Hollow Valve Design: Eaton has also introduced an innovative version of its hollow valve, specifically designed for commercial vehicles and hydrogen-powered applications. This next-generation design delivers lower temperatures across the valve (up to 100°C reduction on the combustion face compared to a solid valve of similar material and geometry), reducing the risk of engine knock and allowing the valve to be produced with more cost-effective materials.
Eaton is a leading global supplier of engine valves. Our facilities utilize state-of-the-art and proprietary technology to manufacture a range of products for the automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, agriculture, and motorcycle markets.
