Learning and Growing through Challenges
Ruquan’s journey at Eaton began ten years ago when he felt confused about his own career growth. “When I first joined Eaton, I was shy and conservative, largely because of my disability,” he recalls. However, his feel of insecurities came to be gradually chipped away by Eaton’s welcoming atmosphere and the warmth of his colleagues. Finally, two months after getting onboard, he spoke up for the first time during a team meeting, a breakthrough moment for him—a timid, self-conscious individual transformed to a confident, optimistic team member.
Then in 2020, Ruquan faced a new challenge when he was re-assigned to the capacitor production workshop, an unfamiliar environment that initially filled him with anxiety. Feeling like a floating leaf belong to nowhere, Ruquan struggled to adapt and he found it hard to get the hang of new products and technical processes by himself. “However, the support from the leader team made all the difference. They listened to my concerns and acted quickly to help me better suit the work.”
This experience was transformative for Ruquan. “The empathy and care I received were incredible—I started to recognize my potentials and gather more confidence to grow,” he reflects. Over time, Ruquan handled his tasks in the new workshop smoothly, mastered more skills, and started to see a prosperous future within the company.
A Caring and Supportive Environment
In 2023, Ruquan faced yet another transition, to the fuse workshop. It was a physically demanding job requiring him to remove excess adhesive from fuse caps and glass tubes. As he began to feel overwhelmed, his supervisor noticed his struggles and took actions immediately. “My supervisor not only encouraged the engineering team to improve the adhesive process accordingly, but also personally participated in the trials to find a solution for me,” Ruquan explains. “This experience reinforced my belief that Eaton genuinely cares about the well-being of all employees.”
All these efforts resulted in the elimination of the manual scraping process, a significant improvement that not only reduced Ruquan’s burden but enhanced the team’s working efficiency in long term. “It wasn’t just about making our work easier,” he says. “It was about ensuring every one of us feel valued, heard, understood and supported.”
Contributing to a Culture of Continuous Improvement (CI)
Encouraged by the successful process improvement, Ruquan began to speak up with more enhancement suggestions at Eaton, which earned him multiple awards in return, including awards for outstanding contributions to the company’s CI initiatives. These recognitions fueled his confidence and motivated him to participate in various company activities and competitions, where Ruquan achieved impressive results, such as winning the championship in the circuit board assembly skills competition.
“I’m grateful to be part of a company that not only recognizes my initiatives and contributions, but also supports my career growth. And I am now more confident to make Eaton an industry model, technology-wise or culture-wise, together with all my colleagues.”
Breaking Barriers in the Inclusive Workplace
“At Eaton, inclusion is not merely a slogan, but a core principle in the company’s DNA” said Ruquan. For example, this was fully demonstrated during the Eaton Dongguan Cooper Guinness Sports Event, where employees with disabilities like Ruquan participated and enjoyed themselves as well. “It’s not often that you see companies encouraging employees with disabilities to take part in such events,” says Ruquan, reflecting on his experience. “But at Eaton, this is just part of our culture.”
Eaton’s commitment to inclusion and diversity empowers every employee to engage fully in various activities, offering them opportunities to challenge themselves, foster deeper connections with others, and showcase their unique values. By competing in sports events where Ruquan has previously secured second and third places, he has shown that inclusion is fundamental in fostering an environment where everyone can excel.
Looking Ahead with Gratitude and Determination
Looking back on his journey, Ruquan feels incredibly fortunate to be part of Eaton, a company characterized by unity, warmth, and mutual support. The friendships he has forged with colleagues and the care he received have been invaluable. “As I continue to grow within the company, I am more than eager to contribute to its ongoing success and looking forward to a more prosperous future,” he says.
At Eaton, inclusion is more than a policy, but a practice that permeates employees’ daily life; what the company offers is more than a job, but a journey, an experience, and a community where every individual is valued and empowered to achieve their full potentials. “Together, we’re ready to sail forward, embrace new challenges ahead and create new successes,” he concludes.
