Eaton EnergyAware UPS

Eaton’s EnergyAware UPS solution enables data centers to contribute to renewable energy and earn from investments.

EnergyAware UPS – Green Money in Grey Spaces

Eaton’s EnergyAware UPS is the first solution that enables data centers to contribute to renewable energy and generate revenues from necessary investments. The solution puts data centers in control of their energy, choosing how much capacity to offer, when, and at what price, while helping energy providers balance sustainable energy demands.

A new opportunity from data center power infrastructure.

Instead of just demanding power, data centers can support the grid and be compensated for it. Eaton’s EnergyAware UPS  lets organisations make money from their existing investment in a UPS by helping energy providers balance sustainable energy demands. Large data center operators, such as colocation and cloud service providers, can be compensated for immediate adjustments to power consumption that help the grid avoid power outages, without compromising critical loads.

Earn from energy.

Eaton’s EnergyAware UPS enables a data center to increase its competitiveness by turning necessary investments into a revenue stream and using its UPS system to participate in frequency regulation. Transmission system operators will compensate data centers for their flexibility in energy consumption when needed to maintain grid frequency. A UPS with Eaton’s EnergyAware UPS solution (UPSaaR) can be used to regulate power demand and generate additional revenue as part of making the data center more competitive on price.

Eaton & Microsoft Corporation developed a whitepaper to explain the challenges the grid operators face in the transition to a low-carbon energy system with frequency regulation and system inertia. The whitepaper also explains how data center's and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) can act as source of Fast Frequency Response (FFR).

Download the whitepaper now to learn more on how data center's can monetize their existing assets with no negative impact to customers and support to improve grid stability to enable the integration of more renewables.

A greener data center solution.

Renewable energy is harder to predict and production can be more volatile – making it harder for energy providers to balance electricity supply.

Data centers can support energy providers by:

  • Adapting to renewable energy demands by providing a flexible power reserve
  • Balancing the power reserve without using fossil fuels in order to contribute to green energy
  • Helping energy producers to take hydro power out of reserve and use it in energy productions
