Eaton combines decades of expertise with state-of-the-art solutions to help industrial customers and utilities improve reliability, drive efficiencies, reduce costs, and protect people and assets. Through our substation modernization design and build services, we enable our customers to meet growing demands, update infrastructure and achieve visibility to substation data for system management.
Eaton’s engineering team offers the expertise, proven substation design experience and support structure to successfully complete your project, from substation design to system analysis and simulation. Typical substation electrical design services include:
In the wake of a disaster or unexpected power outage, speed of response is essential, as these events can cause enormous loss of production and revenue. With service offices strategically located throughout North America, Eaton can deploy expert crisis management teams of engineers and technicians within hours of a disaster striking. This prompt action helps organizations return to production quickly and safely.
Eaton helps utilities design, build and maintain a safer, automated, secure and cost-effective grid.
Problem: Customer required a new power distribution system needing to incorporate existing generation and meet requirements of two utilities.
Solution: New equipment including 10/13.5MVA transformer, 15kV switchgear lineup, and six 13.8kV/400VAC unit substations with control, providing synchronization between existing generator and switchgear. The new construction project was split into three phases. The phase one power distribution system was planned, designed and built with consideration to future phase requirements, this is anticipated to significantly reduce lead times of future phases
Results: Eaton coordinated with utility providers while providing a cost-effective power distribution system, meeting current and future needs. Read the full story.
Problem: The customer needed to ensure interchangeability of installed equipment and spare parts as well as allow for future load growth considerations as well as eliminate the operational and maintenance restrictions caused by the current layout.
Solution: A consultative and turnkey approach to demo current equipment, design and construct a new 69kV/ 13kV substation, which would double the substation’s capacity. The new substation included a new 69kV circuit switcher, 12/20 MVA transformer, voltages regulators, reclosers and a standalone P&C house.
Results: An expanded substation with increased access to safely perform maintenance and consistency of design for ongoing fleet modernization. Read the full story.
Problem: How to address growing demand without causing disruptions and determining the best solution to enable growth in the manufacturing facility, while coordinating with local utility provider and complying with all standard requirements.
Solution: Eaton served as a “one-stop” shop and delivered a 69kv substation with two new step-down transformers, provisions for two future transformers and two full 5kV main-tie-to-main switchgear lines ups offering full redundancy to accommodate expected customer loads with provisions for future growth
Results: Eaton provided a new substation allowing autonomous switching of the transformers without calling the utility, improving safety. Angling the yard eliminated the need for an additional 69kV pole and lines, saving money and time. In addition, a custom protection house was fabricated and tested offsite and the provision for two future transformers significantly eases the customer’s engineering requirements allowing for potential future expansion of the facility.
